Expulsion from preschool because of aggressive behavior or a lack of respect for classmates and peer rejection are two signs that a young child might have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, according to an article appearing in the August/ September 2007 issue of ADDitude magazine.

An experienced preschool teacher can offer advice on normal and abnormal classroom behavior, writes Arlene Schusteff, the author.

“Children with ADHD are much more extreme than the average 3-year-old,” writes Dr. Alan Rosen-blatt, a specialist in neurodevelopmental pediatrics. “It’s not just that a child with ADD can’t sit still. It’s that he can’t focus on any activity, even one that’s pleasurable, for any length of time.”

“Preschoolers and Attention Deficit Disorder,” is available online from the New York City-based publisher.
