The Education Department has announced that it will print a million more copies of its booklet on aids education to meet soaring public demand.

“It’s threatening to eclipse” Schools Without Drugs as the department’s most popular publication, said Loye W. Miller, a spokesman for Secretary of Education William J. Bennett.

The department originally distributed 850,000 copies of the aids booklet, but in the three months since its release, requests for 434,000 additional copies have been logged. The requests came “primarily from school principals, superintendents, school nurses,4PTA leaders and curriculum experts,” according to the department’s announcement.

The new edition will be updated, it said, “to include the most recent factual information about the extent of the aids virus infection,” as well as to include additions to the booklet’s list of resources for further information.

Individual copies of the booklet may be obtained by writing: Consumer Information Center, Department ED, Pueblo, Col. 81009. For orders of more than 25 copies, write: Ms. Alyce Jackson, U.S. Department of Education, 400 Maryland Ave., S.W., Room 2089, Washington, D.C. 20202.
