HBO’s Lifestories: Families in Crisis series presents “Brotherly Love: The Trevor Ferrell Story,’' about a Philadelphia boy whose social consciousness is awakened by a homeless man. Air time: 7:30 p.m. (EDT).

May 11.

PBS airs “Cathedral,’' a onehour special that uses both film footage and animated sequences to examine the design, construction, and cultural role of cathedrals--Reims, Amiens, and Notre Dame, among them--in medieval France. Air time: 8 p.m. (EDT).

May 13.

PBS presents “Dance in America: Three Dances by Martha Graham,’' a one-hour program that features Graham’s legendary troupe performing some of the chore- ographer’s most famous works. Air time: 10 p.m. (EDT)

May 31.

The stories of four courageous children who have survived various forms of abuse are told in “Break the Silence: Kids Against Child Abuse,’' a halfhour CBS documentary. The program, targeted to children ages 8-14 and their parents, uses both live interviews and animation to dramatize the young survivors’ stories. Air time: 8 p.m. (EDT).

June 16.

As part of its Profiles series, the Arts & Entertainment Network looks at the life and legacy of Mao Tse-tung. The hour-long documentary shows how Mao rose from the peasantry to become a revolutionary and, eventually, the leader of modern China. Air time: 7 a.m. (EDT).
