The Consortium for School Networking, or CoSN, a Washington-based nonprofit that provides educational technology products and services, has awarded U.S. Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) with the 2008 Outstanding Achievement for Excellence in Public Service award. The award is given in recognition of the senator’s work to secure federal funding for programs that train teachers to use technology in the teaching of mathematics.
The Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, an Alexandria, Va.-based nonprofit professional development organization for educators, has awarded Deirdre Grode, a 7th and 8th grade social studies and language arts teacher at Hoboken Charter School in Hoboken, N.J., the 2008 Outstanding Young Educator Award. Ms. Grode will receive a $10,000 cash prize in recognition of her work as a staff mentor and as a leader of professional development sessions, as well as for her efforts to raise student awareness of social justice issues.
