Recognizing the challenges faced by children growing up in military families, some states are now working to make sure those children have better opportunities to attend good preschools, a study has found.

Pre-K for Military Families:Honoring Service, Educating Children is available from Pre-K Now.

The study—conducted by Pre-K Now, a Washington-based advocacy group, and the Military Child Education Coalition, based in Harker Heights, Texas—points out that military children weather their transient lifestyles more effectively if they have strong academic and emotional support. Pre-K eligibility, however, varies from state to state, and children attending public pre-K in one state won’t necessarily be able to enroll in a program in another state if a military parent is transferred.

Texas and Kansas are two states that have recently enacted policies to address that population, according to the report.
