Accidents involving teenage drivers are much more likely to be fatal to people other than the teen driver, including passengers, people in other cars, and pedestrians, concludes a report by the American Automobile Association.
The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety in Washington studied crash data from a 10-year period and found that teenage drivers accounted for slightly more than one-third of the crashes in which they were involved. Between 1995 and 2004, accidents involving 15- to 17-year-old drivers killed 30,917 drivers nationwide, of which 11,177, or 36.2 percent, were the teenage drivers themselves.
