Teenage Illegal Drug Use Drops, Federal Report Finds
Illegal drug use among youths ages 12 to 17 dropped 1 percentage point, from 11.6 percent in 2002 to 10.6 percent in 2004, the 2004 National Survey on Drug Use and Health found.
Released Sept. 8 by the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the report also found that marijuana use among males in that age group dropped by the same margin, from 9.1 percent in 2002 to 8.1 percent in 2004. It remained level for females in that time period. Use is measured by asking youths if they have used a drug within a month of when the survey is taken.
