The City College of New York’s school of education has launched an education journal that focuses on training and supporting teachers.

The New Educator, scheduled to come out quarterly, will feature articles, reports, and commentaries on teacher education and quality from researchers as well as from teachers and administrators in the field.

“Our emphasis is on what it takes to create quality educators,” Beverly Falk, an education professor at the college and the editor of the new publication, said in a statement. The journal is being produced by the Taylor & Francis Group, an international publisher of academic journals.

Ms. Falk also said she is seeking submissions that link education theory with practice in the classroom and that reflect the needs and concerns of diverse communities.

The first issue, released earlier this year, features articles by Linda Darling-Hammond, an expert on teacher quality from Stanford University; and Sonia Nieto, an education professor from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, who calls the Bush administration’s definition of a “highly qualified” teacher “incomplete and inadequate.” Also, Jennifer Good, the director of an in-service center at Auburn University in Alabama, and Joan Bennett, a teacher at Ogletree Elementary School in Auburn, write about a model for a university-based “professional center” where teachers can talk about their experiences.
