A recent study suggests that 5th graders in an Indiana district are entering school most mornings too tired to consistently pay attention in class.
Conducted by researchers at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., and published in the February issue of the Journal of School Health, the study surveyed 199 pupils in 5th grade from a rural school district. It also found that about half the students admitted that they argued with their parents at least twice a week about what time they should go to bed, and a third said they were staying up late five to seven nights a week when their parents thought they were asleep.
