Illinois Law Secures Services For Students With Disabilities
Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich has signed legislation that will allow students with disabilities to participate in graduation ceremonies with their high school classes without losing access to continuing services at their schools. The measure is known as “Brittany’s Law.”
It was introduced after Brittany Booth, an 18-year-old with Down syndrome, was told by school district officials that she could not participate in the graduation ceremony with her class last year at Lyon’s Township High School, in La Grange, Ill., without forfeiting her right to future educational services.
