Illinois Takes More Time to Issue Report Cards
School report cards will be released a few weeks late, but they will be free of the errors that last year resulted in more than 400 Illinois schools being incorrectly identified as not making adequate yearly progress under the federal No Child Left Behind Act, state officials say.
The report cards, which summarize test scores for the 2003-04 academic year, will be publicly unveiled on Dec. 15, at the same time that individual students’ scores will be available to parents. The state deadline for releasing the report was Oct. 31, said Becky Watts, a spokeswoman for the Illinois state board of education, the agency that issues the report cards. The delay this year was largely the result of the agency taking extra time to work with districts to make sure the report cards were accurate, Ms. Watts said.
