An anonymous group of local families has made a $45 million gift to Boston’s Jewish day schools to bolster their educational, religious, and social programs.

The area’s three largest day schools each will receive $10 million to implement pilot programs to improve learning. Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Boston and the Rashi School, both located in Newton, Mass., and the Maimonides School in Brookline, Mass., will craft five-year plans detailing how they will use the money, according to a news release.

Combined Jewish Philanthropies, a fund-raising and planning organization for Boston’s Jewish community, received the gift earlier this month and will administer the donation. The gift is believed to be among the nation’s largest donations to Jewish schools, according to the philanthropy group.

The remaining $15 million will pay for new education initiatives at all the area’s 14 Jewish day schools, in addition to awarding more student scholarships.
