The percentage of children under age 18 covered by private health insurance declined from 71 percent to 66 percent from 2000 to 2003, a data analysis released last week shows. At the same time, it says, the percentage of children covered by Medicaid and other government-sponsored health-insurance programs increased from 20 percent to 26 percent.
Child Trends, a nonprofit research center in Washington, conducted the analysis.
