Report Roundup
‘No Child’ Views
A survey of 1,500 teachers in the Fresno Unified School District in California and the Richmond, Va., public schools shows their views about the goals and implementation of the No Child Left Behind Act.
The report, released this month by the Civil Rights Project at Harvard University, is part of the project’s five-year study of the implementation of the federal education law in 11 urban school districts and six states.
Generally, teachers agree with many of the law’s goals, the survey found, but are concerned that aspects of its implementation are hurting curriculum, instruction, and the ability of underperforming schools to attract and keep good teachers.
