Jack D. Dale has been named the superintendent of Fairfax County, Va., public schools—the 12th-largest school district in the country.

Mr. Dale, 55, is now the superintendent of the 39,000-student Frederick County, Md., district. Brad Draeger, the Fairfax County district’s chief academic officer, has been serving as interim superintendent since Daniel A. Domenech, who led the district for six years, retired in March.

Mr. Dale received a four-year contract and will begin his $237,000-a-year job with the 166,000-student district July 1.

Donald C. Martin has been named the associate dean for enrollment and student services at Teachers College, Columbia University.

Mr. Martin, 50, who had served as the associate dean for enrollment management at the University of Chicago’s graduate school of business for four years, will begin his job at the 5,000-student Teachers College on July 1.

In his new position, Mr. Martin will oversee the offices of marketing, admissions, student aid, student life, the registrar, career services, international students, and students with disabilities for the college, located in New York City.

Sharon Lynn Kagan, meanwhile, recently became Teachers College’s associate dean for policy and the director of its newly formed office for policy and research.

Since 2000, Ms. Kagan has been the co-director of the college’s National Center for Children and Families and a professor of early-childhood and family policy. She will continue to serve in those roles.

Her new responsibilities will include working with policymakers, foundations, federal and state governments, and the news media to generate and circulate policy- focused education research.
