In a videotaped message, President Bush announced that he would ask Congress for $100 million over three years to support the "We the People" initiative run by the National Endowment for the Humanities. Secretary of Education Rod Paige told participants that nearly $100 million in grants under a separate program is available to improve history teaching in schools.
