Leonard J. Lubinsky has been named the executive director of the Northeast Foundation for Children, based in Greenfield, Mass.

In the position that he is slated to take over in September, he will be responsible for running the organization’s three sections: the private K-8 Greenfield (Mass.) Center School, a publishing house, and a national consulting group. Mr. Lubinsky, 57, will be leaving his 25-year post as the superintendent of schools for Union 28, a collection of four elementary schools in Millers Falls, Mass. He has also served as the chairman of the Massachusetts state school board’s early-childhood advisory council and as the president of the Connecticut Valley Superintendents’ Roundtable.

The California Teachers Association’s state council of education has elected Wayne Johnson as its president. The 660-member policymaking body, which represents the 295,000 members of the Burlingame-based CTA, voted overwhelmingly for Mr. Johnson, who has been the organization’s vice president for four years. Mr. Johnson, 58, previously taught social studies at Hamilton High School in Los Angeles and is a former president of United Teachers Los Angeles, an affiliate of the CTA, for six years.Barbara Kerr, the group’s secretary-treasurer, will take over the CTA vice presidency.
Barbara Byrd-Bennett, the chief executive officer of the Cleveland public schools, has announced the appointment of six regional superintendents to help support each of the 77,000-student district’s 188 schools in focusing on student achievement. They are: Robert Henry, the principal of Blue Valley High School in Escazu, Costa Rica, and a former deputy community superintendent and superintendent of Community School District 12 in New York City; Annette Knox, the principal of James McCune Smith Community Schools in New York and a 30-year veteran of that city’s schools; Richard L. Larrabee, the principal of Tremont Elementary School in Cleveland and a 31-year veteran of the Cleveland district; Sam Penceal, the principal of Gladstone Atwell Middle School in New York’s Brooklyn borough and a 32-year veteran of the New York City system; Judith M. Smith, a 30-year employee of the Cleveland schools and a former principal of the city’s Gracemount Elementary; and G. Wayne Carter, the interim head of student-support services and a 25-year veteran of the Cleveland schools.
