The “goals 2000: educate America act’’ passed by the Senate would:
- Authorize $400 million for education-reform grants for states. States would be required to submit plans for boosting student achievement.
- Codify the six national education goals and add new ones on parental involvement and teacher professional development.
- Formally authorize the National Education Goals Panel and create a new National Education Standards and Improvement Council to set model national standards and certify state standards.
Create a new occupational-skills-standards board to set model occupational standards.
