The Character Education Partnership Inc. has named A. John Martin as its first executive director and chief executive officer.

The nonprofit organization, which was incorporated early this year, is an umbrella group of 48 organizations interested in developing moral character and civic virtue in students. Member groups include the National School Boards Association, the Association for Supervision and Curricululm Development, and the National Association of School Administrators.

Mr. Martin, 53, has been a teacher, principal, and state education official.
