You might remember a couple weeks ago when the CEO of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt stopped by our offices to detail the endeavors they were making to transition to digital publishing, including the unveiling of a $100 million innovation fund.
This time it’s Pearson making a virtual splash.
The London-based education publishers, whose U.S. headquarters are in New York, unveiled yesterday a completely iPad-based curriculum for 7th- and 9th-graders that will be piloted at three high schools and two middle schools across Virginia.
The curriculum is aligned with the company’s Virginia editions of U.S. and World history textbooks. It will run for 12 weeks, starting Nov. 1, as part of Virginia’s Beyond Textbooks initiative, and Radford University and the Virginia Department of Education will cooperate on a study to evaluate the pilot after its conclusion.
While the program boasts itself the first-ever complete social studies curriculum for the iPad, it certainly won’t be the last endeavor to design curricula for the tablet computing technology. Sounds like it might be a good idea to do a story about how schools are adapting to newly available computing tablet technology.
If only I knew someone who did that ...
