The Southern Regional Education Board is convening two committees of prominent policymakers and education experts to recommend policies for improving adolescent literacy and high schools.
The committee on reading and writing in middle and high school, chaired by Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, a Democrat, met for the first time Aug. 29 in Richmond. The committee on high school graduation rates and achievement, led by Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue, a Republican, will meet in October. Each group will make recommendations to the board’s 16 member states.
