A Valentine’s Day gift from Arne Duncan & company: double-testing waivers for seven more states.
My intrepid colleague over at Politics K-12, Michele McNeil, explains it all for you (she’s got news on a new teacher-evaluation waiver, too).
With the four double-test waivers already granted, the Friday round of decisions by the education department brings to 11 the number of states that have won waivers that allow them to avoid testing their students twice this coming spring: with their own regular state tests, and the field tests being administered by PARCC and Smarter Balanced.
As you recall, fifteen states applied for these waivers, so that leaves four decisions still unmade, including a biggie: California.
