Rethinking Recess (Video)

Can recess be used to promote social-emotional development? Playworks, a nonprofit working in 21 states, thinks so — the organization promotes structured recess, complete with designated staff that runs games and promotes leadership and conflict resolution for students. With recess coordinators and peer leaders modeling positive behavior, the program has been shown to decrease bullying and create a more inclusive school culture.
