Our story is up this morning on the latest results from PISA, a prominent international assessment that compares student achievement in math, science, and reading.
Here’s the (very) short version:
• In science: U.S. students saw enough gains to be considered—um—average among leading industrialized nations.
• In math: U.S. students saw some gains, but are still below average (among the 34 OECD member nations).
• In reading: Still average, with results relatively unchanged from previous rounds of testing.
Expect to hear plenty of pronouncements today on what it all means.
And for those who don’t know (or can’t remember), PISA is the acronym for the Program for International Student Assessment, which looks at the performance of 15-year-olds in a host of nations.
