A May 1, 2013, Wall Street Journal article, Learning Goals Spur Backlash, focused on the backlash
to the Common Core Standards. I was recently interviewed by a public radio reporter and responded to the issues
raised in the article. In addition, a recent guest post on this blog by Robyn Oatley, Beyond the Politics of Common Core Standards, also
addressed many of these issues.

You can listen to the radio interview here.

As you advocate in your communities for what is best for kids it is so important to know what these standards mean. For very good summaries of the standards for parents, teachers, and students be sure to read our series written by Susan Weston on the Prichard Blog regarding what the standards really mean for our kids. You can also watch and share this three minute video which is very helpful.

As we experience pushback on the more rigorous, internationally benchmarked standards it is important that you stand tall for the children in your communities. We must prepare them to be ready for the global competition. We will only move backward without rigorous standards.
