The U.S. Department of Education has announced the creation of a new Office of Early Learning, to be headed by Jacqueline Jones, who is currently U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan’s senior advisor for early learning. The new office will operate within the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Jones’ new office will oversee the Early Learning Challenge grant program—winners will be announced in December—and will coordinate other early-learning efforts within the department, including those involving Promise Neighborhoods and the Investing in Innovation grant program. Details on staffing and operations will be forthcoming.
