The U.S. Department of Education has made it official: All six states that won grants in early rounds of the Race to the Top early-learning challenge will get a combined $89 million to help improve early-childhood education.

California, Colorado, Illinois, New Mexico, Oregon, and Wisconsin will split the money. The Education Department said this additional money now funds their applications at 75 percent.

My co-blogger, Alyson Klein, explains these extra grants more fully in her post last month.
