Education deans from across the country have sent a message to the Trump administration: Uphold the role of public education in our democracy.
Education Deans for Justice and Equity—a recently formed alliance of current and former deans of colleges and schools of education— released a “Declaration of Principles,” in partnership with the National Education Policy Center, a nonprofit research center. The deans write that they are “seriously concerned” by President Donald Trump’s rhetoric that has reportedly led to an uptick of bullying and fear in classrooms.
“Our children suffer when we deny that educational inequities exist and when we refuse to invest sufficient time, resources, and effort toward holistic and systemic solutions,” the deans, numbering 175, write.
