U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski will be headlining Wednesday’s National Rural Education Technology Summit in downtown Washington.

The summit will also feature Smithsonian Secretary G. Wayne Clough and U.S. Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Kathleen Merrigan, and will convene more than 100 experts in rural education with the aim of enabling discussions of how technology can create new learning opportunities in rural schools constrained by short budgets and long travel distances.

Duncan is expected to deliver a speech to open the proceedings and partake in a question-and-answer session with Genachowski, Clough and Merrigan. Other speakers include Karen Cator, head of education technology for the U.S. Department of Education, and Julie Young, president & CEO of the Florida Virtual School.
