Delegates to the National Education Association’s 2012 convention today swiftly removed from consideration a new business item that would have called for the removal of U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.

This is a subtle but important distinction from last year, when a similar resolution was debated at length before being defeated.

In removing this item from any debate, NEA delegates appear to be signalling that, with an upcoming election, declining membership, and a hostile Republican party, they have bigger fish to fry.
