In Queens, NY, Maria Katsanos’ 3rd grade class is utilizing the “KLEWS” strategy to determine what kidney beans need to successfully germinate. This explanation-building process asks students to identify what they think they know, what they’re going to learn, evidence, wonderings, and science words and concepts.
