John E. Chubb, an education scholar and a founder of Edison Schools Inc., will serve as interim director of the Washington-based Education Sector, the research group announced last week. Mr. Chubb replaces Richard Lee Colvin, a veteran reporter and editor who joined the organization last year after heading the Hechinger Institute on Education and the Media at Teachers College, Columbia University. Mr. Colvin is leaving the organization to pursue other writing projects, according to a statement.
Currently the founder and chief executive officer of the New York City-based Leeds Global Partners, an international education consulting group, Mr. Chubb has held faculty positions at Stanford, Johns Hopkins, and Princeton universities. His 1990 book with Terry M. Moe, Politics, Markets, and America’s Schools, has been influential in informing education debates.
