Marijuana and ecstasy use among teenagers increased last year, says an annual survey by the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

The study found that 6.1 percent of high school seniors, 3.3 percent of 10th graders, and 1.2 percent of 8th graders reported daily marijuana use in 2010 compared with 2009 rates of 5.2 percent, 2.8 percent, and 1.0 percent, respectively, for those grades.

Ecstasy use among 8th graders grew from 1.3 percent in 2009 to 2.4 percent last year.

The survey polled students in 396 public and private schools and was conducted by the University of Michigan under a National Institutes of Health grant.
