Those of you who read our story on a recent study about common standards and college readiness might be interested in a bit of a dialogue that it sparked.
The Educational Policy Improvement Center surveyed instructors of entry-level college courses and found that, on the whole, they viewed the common standards as capturing pretty well the skills and knowledge students would need to succeed in their courses. (See my story for a fuller description of the study and a link to the study itself.)
Ze’ev Wurman, a Silicon Valley executive who has helped shape California’s math curriculum and tests, took issue with the study’s methodology, and thus its findings, and said so in the comments section of my story. In response, the study’s lead authors, David Conley and Katie Drummond, wrote a response and posted it on EPIC’s website, as well as in the comments section of my story.
In case you’re not too out of breath after all that, we now have Wurman’s reply to that response.
