A chart published with a story about education data in the Jan. 15, 1997, issue of Education Week contained several errors. The National Assessment of Educational Progress mathematics scores referred to were from 1992. In that year, 20 percent of Maryland’s 8th graders scored at proficient or above, as did 13 percent of Georgia’s. On the 1994 NAEP reading assessment, 33 percent of Indiana’s students scored at or above proficient.
