The Council of Chief State School Officers will send two delegations of education commissioners on exchange visits to France and Taiwan this fall.
Six state commissioners will visit France Oct. 4-9 for a forum with leading French educators. The topics to be discussed include foreign4language study, early-childhood programs, and teacher training and certification.
Participants will include William G. Demmert of Alaska, Gerald N. Tirozzi of Connecticut, Werner Rogers of Georgia, Alice C. McDonald of Kentucky, Wayne G. Sanstead of North Dakota, and8Stephen S. Kaagan of Vermont.
Three other state chiefs--Charles Toguchi of Hawaii, William N. Kirby of Texas, and S. John Davis of Virginia--will travel to Taiwan Oct. 3-12 to visit schools, discuss school policies with policymakers, and examine teacher-training programs.
