UC Drops National Merit Awards

The University of California will no longer award National Merit Scholarships, the system’s chancellors announced this month after concluding that the use of a single test in selecting recipients is inappropriate. Students are selected as semifinalists based on their scores on the Preliminary SAT, or PSAT, a test administered by the College Board.
