The Chicago-based Tribune Co. is expanding its presence in the education market. The company has agreed in recent weeks to buy two publishers of textbooks and other educational materials.
The company announced last week that it will buy the NTC Publishing Group for $82 million. NTC, based in Lincolnwood, Ill., publishes textbooks for the secondary school market.
The deal follows the Tribune Co.'s agreement late last month to acquire the Educational Publishing Corp. for $200 million. Educational Publishing, based in Mountain View, Calif., prints curriculum materials under such names as Ideal School Supply, Instructional Fair, and T.S. Dennison.
The Tribune Co. owns the Chicago Tribune newspaper, the Chicago Cubs baseball team, and numerous television and radio stations.
