an expert in professional development for teachers, has been named secretary of education in New Mexico, where teachers battled nonstop with the prior administration.

Trujillo is the associate dean of research at the New Mexico State University College of Education. Before joining the university, she was a high school teacher and principal.

Steve Canavero, citing the need for a better work-life balance, has resigned as schools chief in Nevada.

He was appointed interim superintendent in 2015 by former Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval and hired full time for the post in 2016.

Canavero also said the recently elected governor, Steve Sisolak, a Democrat, deserves to appoint his own chief.
