Texas Union Backs Independent

The Texas Federation of Teachers is backing Carol Keeton Strayhorn, an Independent candidate for governor. Ms. Strayhorn, a former teacher and former Republican, “is a pro-education alternative to the failed leadership in Austin that has made education an afterthought,” Linda Bridges, the president of the American Federation of Teachers’ affiliate, said in a July 14 statement announcing the endorsement.
