Southern states may not be leaders in some education statistics, but the region is ahead of the rest of the country in providing publicly financed preschool, according to a report by the Atlanta-based Southern Education Foundation.
Nineteen percent of the region’s 3- and 4-year-olds attend state-financed pre-K programs, which is more than double the rate for the rest of the nation, the report says. It also shows that all six of the states in the country that offer full-day prekindergarten are in the South.
“Pre-Kindergarten in the South” is posted by the Southern Education Foundation.
