I continue to be excited about the growth of Edcamps not just as a alternative model for educator conferences, but as a new model of professional development within schools and districts. At its heart, the model respects the need for teachers to take ownership of their own learning.

There have now been over 150 Edcamps held or scheduled around the world, including 18 scheduled for October alone. That includes edcamp Skolforskning which is the first ever Edcamp to be held in Mordor, on October 11.

Dan Callahan, the chairman of the board of the Edcamp Foundation, and I wrote a commentary for the Harvard Educational Letter trying to explain the model to new audiences. Enjoy and share!

Best wishes to all the educators gearing up for the year with an Edcamp!
