Rural school districts in 35 states are celebrating recent news that they’ll receive up to $25,000 from the America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education program.
The Monsanto Fund, the nonprofit grant sponsor and arm of an agricultural products company, will invest $2.3 million in 176 school districts nationwide this school year.
Local farmers nominated school districts, and local leaders completed online applications. The goal of the program was to help farmers support nearby schools.
It started with a pilot last year in Illinois and Minnesota with 165 eligible counties. It now covers 1,245 eligible counties in 39 states.
