Neo-Nazi Group Targeting Schools for Music Distribution

The Anti-Defamation League, a New York City organization that tracks the activities of extremist groups, is warning educators that a neo-Nazi music company plans to distribute compact discs in schools.

The organization placed an “educator alert” on its Web site, www.adl.org, last month to warn school districts of plans by Panzerfaust Records of Newport, Minn., to distribute 100,000 sampler CDs featuring hate music in schools nationwide.

The project, known as Operation Schoolyard USA, intends to sell the samplers for 15 cents each, or 100 for $15, to volunteers who are then encouraged to distribute the music at middle and high schools as a way of influencing young people, according to Panzerfaust’s Web site.

The art on the discs has been inconspicuously designed so that “it will be able to fly below the radar screen of teachers,” the Web site says.

“They’re not just people who want to sell music,” said Marylin Mayo, the associate director of the Anti-Defamation League’s fact-finding department.

“They want to create a way of passing on their ideology.”
