The North Carolina State Community College Board has reversed its ban on admission of undocumented students to the state’s community colleges, according to Inside Higher Education. But the board also decided that the community colleges must charge undocumented students out-of-state tuition rates.

The fact that undocumented students must pay the out-of-state tuition rate, which is more than $7,000 per year for a full load of courses, will put the goal of attending a community college in North Carolina out of reach for many such students, critics of the policy say.
