“National Survey of American Attitudes on Substance Abuse X: Teens and Parents” is posted by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse.

An increasing percentage of students say they can get illegal drugs at their schools, according to the 10th annual back-to-school survey conducted by the Columbia University-based National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse.

The survey—which included interviews with 1,000 teenagers and 829 parents—found that 62 percent of high school students and 23 percent of middle school students reported attending schools where illegal drugs are readily available. In 2002, those proportions were 44 percent for high school students and 19 percent for middle school students.
