Missouri’s newly inaugurated governor, in his first day on the job, Jan. 10, pledged to make education a top priority.
In an inaugural address that was short on specifics, Gov. Matt Blunt, a Republican who previously was Missouri’s secretary of state, said he would “strive to ensure that every young Missourian has the education they deserve.”
A spokesman for the governor said Mr. Blunt would offer his specific plans for education in his budget address next month.
Mr. Blunt, who at 34 is the nation’s youngest current governor, comes to office at a historic moment: For the first time in 120 years, the state’s governorship and both chambers of its legislature are under Republican control.
