Mr. Handy has a group of middle school students who enjoy math, and he wants to provide a fun and structured opportunity for them outside the classroom. What can Mr. Handy do?

Start a math club. In celebration of its 25th anniversary, MATHCOUNTS launched the MATHCOUNTS Club Program, which provides middle schools with free materials that enable them to create and sustain regular math club meetings. Designed specifically for 6th to 8th graders, teachers can establish clubs as independent organizations or as training grounds for MATHCOUNTS’s annual competition.

After signing up on www.mathcounts.org, schools receive a resource kit that includes a guidebook of club activities and the first monthly math challenge. Additionally, five other monthly math challenges and an Ultimate Math Challenge will be made available via the web for club students.
