“Ready or Not” is available from the Center for an Urban Future.

Some of the nation’s most promising programs for improving students’ readiness for college could be hindered by insufficient collaboration between New York City’s department of education and the City University of New York, concludes a report by the Center for an Urban Future, a New York City-based think tank.

The City University of New York supports three major collaborations between its campuses and city schools—College Now, the Early College Initiative, and the Middle Grades Initiative. All are designed to improve the preparedness, college attendance, and college-completion rates of city students. But even the largest of the programs, College Now, served only 11.1 percent of all New York City high school students during the 2004-05 academic year.
