
Janet Whitla will retire as the president and chief executive officer of Education Development Center Inc. at the end of the year.
Ms. Whitla, 74, has led the educational research and development organization for 24 years, after joining in 1966 as a research assistant. The board of directors has begun a search for her successor.
The Newton, Mass.-based nonprofit organization has 335 projects in 50 countries involving a broad range of priorities, including K-12 education, early-childhood development, and learning technologies.
